What to Expect After Hair Transplantation

, by Unknown

In hair transplants, recovery time is as important as before and during the procedure. As people go under the knife to have their hair restored, patients should be properly oriented about realistic expectations after the operation. Here are some typical changes that may occur during the recovery period.

A day after the cosmetic process, there should be no more blood around the grafts where hair was transplanted. Patients may experience a tight sensation in the scalp area, although unbearable pain isn't normal. Numbness may also occur within the next 24 hours after surgery.

After two to three days, scabs that generally form in the scalp should be gone. There may be some swelling on the forehead. Between the first and eighth weeks, any type of puffiness or redness should be gone and patients would be required to visit their surgeons for post-operative consultation. There will be hair growth around this time; the hair that sprouts from the area would have the texture of a four-day-old beard.

In 2 to 12 months, some hair may shed and grow in the transplanted scalp portion. The hair may thicken by the next month. During this period, hair transplant patients will be evaluated for a follow-up procedure if the first transplant didn't yield results as expected.

See Your Confidence Soar with Hair Transplants

, by Unknown

Your hair is your crowning glory, so the old cliché goes. Hence, the state of one's hair is a major concern for individuals who want to make a lasting impression. This includes fresh graduates looking to begin their careers, celebrities aspiring to wow the audience at star-studded gatherings, and individuals who are influenced by perpetually changing fashion and beauty trends.

With the development of various hair restoration procedures, even people who've lost significant amounts of hair due to accidents or diseases can now conform to society's notion of glamor. Options include medically supervised hair transplant surgery and non-surgical hair restoration procedures.

One method that is fast gaining popularity among patients is the strip harvesting method, also known as follicular unit transplantation (FUT). Using this method, natural hair is transplanted in groupings of 1 to 4 hairs (known as follicular units) from a donor site (usually the back or sides of the scalp) to a part of the scalp with thinning hair.

Another option is laser hair therapy (also known as low-level laser therapy), in which lasers are used to stimulate hair growth and reduce hair loss. This procedure is based on the principle of photo-biotherapy.

With the latest hair restoration procedures, individuals who once kept a low profile because of hair loss can now hold their heads up high. They'll no longer have to hide their condition with wigs, hats, and head scarves.
